I thought it would be polite to add a few words about myself so that everyone who should happen to stumble across this blog can get to know a little more about the person who has chosen the unconventional name of Amarna Rose.
I don’t really have a clue as to where that name came from. One thing about signing up for new stuff on the worldwide web(be it blogs, emails, chat forums, dating profiles etc.) that I absolutely dread is having to make up a new nickname. I always have to do that because my most commonly used names are always taken. And I just can’t stand adding numbers or extra letters to a nick. To me it’s a way of publically announcing that you’re not capable of making up a new name that’s not already in use, so you just stick a _25 or something at the end of the name and hope for the best. So anyways, I tried every name I could think of- old and new- but everything was taken. And I mean absolutely everything. I even started wondering if there was some sort of error on the site that would automatically make a big red box pop up on the screen, branding every name I could possibly think of as taken. All of a sudden the name “Amarna”, which actually began as “Amana” fell into my head. So I decided on that one and behold: it was available. On the other hand I did feel that Amarna was a bit on the short side. I don’t know why I decided to add the name Rose in particular, it just sounded better that way.
So that’s the story behind the name. The story about the person behind the name is slightly more complex, but I’ll try to cut it as short as possible(not least for the sake of privacy).
* Amarna was born on a sunny Friday during springtime almost 26 years ago, in a cold country far north.
* She(yes, most definitely a female) is the youngest daughter and has one older sister only.
* As a child she was artistic, curious and very attentive to details
* She would recite poetry for her family and make up hour-long fairytales, to great joy of aunts, uncles, parents, sister and grandparents(and anyone else who would bother listening)
* She loves reading and learning foreign languages and has done so ever since she learnt how to read at the age of 4-5. English was her first foreign language and she’s been speaking it since she was 6 years old.
* Completed a bachelor degree in Social and Cultural Studies at the University of her hometown, specializing in Language and Information and with Spanish and Latin-American Studies as her main field.
* Attended an English language school in Los Angeles for nine months, studied Egyptology at the Uni for a year(and failed) and has also studied Multimedia Design. In addition she has also lived five months in Spain as a foreign exchange student.
* Loves travelling and exploring different countries and cultures. Her perfect vacation includes a blend of beaches and parties combined with sightseeing(especially monuments, temples, caves, pyramids, old buildings, ruins, works of art and other wonders of the world).
* Converted to Wicca 7 years ago.
* She loves exploring alternative lifestyles and practises meditation and yoga on a regular basis. Also very interested in auras and chakras, angel communication, reiki, TFT, theta-healing, gemstones, aromatherapy and various methods of divination.
* Completely obsessed with video games, especially Tomb Raider and King’s Quest. Also an avid walkthrough writer of three years and is currently working on her website.
* A bit of a couch potato and loves watching sports on TV, especially handball and soccer.
* Favourite bands and artists include: Nightwish, Within Temptation, Loreena McKennitt, Enya, Sarah Bareilles, Psapp and Runrig
* Favourite actor: Johnny Depp
* Favourite actress: Angelina Jolie
* Favourite TV-show: Lost, The L-Word, Sex & The City, Everybody Loves Raymond, My Name is Earl, King of Queens, Two and a half Men, Charmed, Medium, Ghost Whisperer, The Simpsons and so on…..
* Has a yellow belt in kickboxing and was a handball goalie for more than 7 years(played for 10)
* Favourite fruit/berry is apple, strawberry, sour cherry, kiwi and cantalope
* Can’t stand: getting up early, seafood, stress, dishonesty, intolerance and arrogant people
* Loves: Saturdays, beer, games, black coffee, a good book, chocolate cake, brownies, Ben & Jerry’s Chocolate brownies & cookie dough ice cream, cheesecake, online shopping and mom’s homemade dinners.
